Sarah Lacey suspended her campaign in mid-March, but she never formally removed her name from the ballot and may move on to the general election in November if she remains in second place.

A new survey aims to identify issues voters in Anne Arundel County face throughout the electoral process.

Since canvassing began Nov. 10, the process has been plagued with delays and hamstrung by a decision of the five-member partisan Anne Arundel County Board of Elections to wait to count mail-in ballots until after Election Day.

A batch of about 2,000 mail-in ballots counted over the weekend showed Democratic incumbent Steuart Pittman shrinking Republican County Council member Jessica Haire’s lead in the race for Anne Arundel County executive to about 5,000 votes. Returns now show Haire leading Pittman, 84,323 votes to 79,265 votes.

The race for Anne Arundel County executive remains tight as Republican Jessica Haire leads incumbent Steuart Pittman by almost 11,000 votes.

Wednesday’s returns showed little change in the undecided races for Republican county executive nominee and nominations in three County Council races.

Canvassing began at 10 a.m. with bipartisan teams sorting and reviewing the ballots until they have completed the day’s batch, which officials expect will be in the early evening.
