Porter County Prosecutor Gary Germann said Tuesday morning his office is working on an initial charge in the case of criminal recklessness.

The officers found a woman in her mid 40s dead inside the home, police said.

Grace Rodriguez, 2, of Portage, Indiana, was reported dead Tuesday evening after accidentally shooting herself with a gun found in her home.

The shooting occurred at the girls home in the 100 block of Coral Avenue, which is located in the Oak Tree Village mobile home park, officials said.

PORTAGE, Ind. (AP) — A 2-year-old northwestern Indiana girl has died after accidentally shooting herself with a gun she found in her home, authorities said Thursday. Grace Rodriguez of Portage was pronounced dead at 6:10 p.m.

"It was reported the male was armed with a knife and possibly a handgun," police said.

Financial difficulties, Police Chief Michael Candiano said, were at the root of the challenge to obtain the body cameras in the past.
