The project gives Detroit an unprecedented opportunity to simultaneously eliminate an outdated highway, better connect neighborhoods to downtown and correct historic injustices.

Governor Gretchen Whitmer is expected to sign a bill that would allow for HOV or carpool lanes in Michigan along I-75.

State Rep. Nate Shannon's legislation is part of a two-bill package that would create the first carpool lanes in Michigan.

The massive road project is slated to finish in September, ending years of traffic snarls. Less visible is an underground tunnel boring effort that avoided catastrophe when a silt pocket trapped the project’s boring machine. 

Construction is moving forward to build a carpool lane on Interstate 75, according to the Michigan Department of Transportation.

The Michigan Department of Transportation has closed all lanes of northbound Interstate 75 at I-696 in Oakland County for emergency repairs as crews investigate a nearby sinkhole.
