Rs 2000 Notes Withdrawn News Today

The Economic Offence Wing (EOW) of Odisha Police questioned people standing in queue to exchange Rs 2000 currency notes at the Reserve Bank of India counter here to find out whether they were acting as agents for others, an official said.

People can send their Rs 2,000 banknotes to specified regional offices of the Reserve Bank through the insured post for credit directly in their bank accounts.

The Supreme Court of India has refused to entertain a plea challenging the Delhi HCs decision to dismiss a PIL against the RBIs notification permitting the exchange of ₹2,000 currency notes without any requisition slip and ID proof. The court cited executive policy decision in its refusal.

RBI Governor Shaktikanta Das said on Thursday that as of now, close to 50 per cent of the Rs 2,000 denomination notes that were in circulation have come back to the banking system.

The recent decision by the Reserve Bank of India to stop printing the Rs 2,000 note which was introduced post demonetisation has had mixed responses.
