RBI Governor Shaktikanta Das said on Thursday that as of now, close to 50 per cent of the Rs 2,000 denomination notes that were in circulation have come back to the banking system.

In May, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) said it would withdraw these high-value notes from circulation and permitted their exchange or deposit until Sept. 30.

A major factor for the deposits is that while an individual can exchange only Rs 20,000 a day, there is no such cap on deposits.
