At the interbank foreign exchange market, the local unit opened strong at 82.97 against the greenback and traded in a range of 82.90-83.06.

At the interbank foreign exchange, the rupee opened at 83.31 against the dollar. It touched a low of 83.32 in initial deals, registering a fall of 4 paise over its previous close.

At the interbank foreign exchange market, the rupee opened lower at 81.61 to a dollar against the previous close of 81.42.

Rupee strengthened 1.6% to 81.4225 per dollar this month, while the greenback is down about 4.50% after softer than expected U.S. inflation data

Rupee falls: At the interbank foreign exchange, the domestic unit opened at 82.87 against the dollar, then lost further ground to quote at 82.88, registering a loss of 8 paise over its previous close. In initial trade, the local unit also touched 82.84 against the American currency.

Rupee falls 6 paise to all-time low of 83.06 against US dollar

Rupee rose by 24 paise to close at 81.49 against the US dollar on Friday.

The domestic currency had breached the 81-mark for the first time on Friday.

At end of trading on September 22, the rupee closed at 80.86 against the US dollar, its lowest ever, and about 7 per cent lower than in January. By the time you read this, it might well have breached 81.

The rupee falls 8 paise to 79.82 against the US dollar in early trade. Besides facing the impact of speculation on US Fed rate hike, the local currency also faced the heat of firm crude oil prices and a strong dollar in the overseas market
