Rep. Jimmy Panetta announced Friday that he has secured more than $5.53 million in federal community project funding for six initiatives across Santa Cruz County ranging from affordable housing to childcare and infrastructure projects.
The flushing consists of cleaning the inside of the pipes by opening hydrants and releasing water at high speeds that whisk away the deposits that have built up. During this process, water can flow through pipes as quickly as five feet per second, according to the release.
"I'm a ratepayer and my rates are going to go up," said Board Chair Bruce Jaffe, also a candidate for 2nd District Santa Cruz County Supervisor, before the vote at the Capitola City Council chambers. "This is an investment in the future and I'm willing to do that."
Officials are preparing for a Flood Watch that is set to begin on Sunday morning and go into Wednesday for low-lying areas like Felton Grove. For those up in areas like Boulder Creek, downed trees and power outages are of utmost concern.
The San Lorenzo Valley Water District Board of Directors announced Friday that in a 4-1 vote they have approved an increasing rate hike over the next five years for customers.
