The families of four of five Marines who were killed when their Osprey crashed in California in June 2022 have filed a federal lawsuit.

The families of Camp Pendleton Marines killed in an Osprey helicopter crash in 2022 filed a wrongful death lawsuit Thursday in San Diego federal court.

The lawsuit points to well-publicized issues with the Osprey's mechanics and names as defendants Bell Textron and Boeing, which design and manufacture the aircraft, and Rolls-Royce, which designs and manufactures the engines.

Military officials remain confident in the CV-22 Osprey aircraft despite deadly crashes, including one last month that resulted in three Marines being killed.

The U.S. Marine Corps has concluded the crash last year of an Osprey aircraft in Southern California was the result of mechanical failure.

Despite the findings the military continues to fly the V-22 with no firm understanding of the cause or any definitive mechanical fix for the problem in sight.

The Marine Corps has concluded an investigation into a June 2022 aircraft crash that killed five service members, finding a mechanical failure was responsible for the accident.

The report also ruled out any issues with weather, birds or other external factors. The investigation concluded there should be no disciplinary actions or administrative actions against any Marines.
