First of two controversial new Coast Guard vessels arrives in Chatham
CHATHAM — The first of two 45-foot U.S. Coast Guard rescue vessels arrived this week at the municipal fish pier. The two vessels will replace smaller boats that were specially built to operate in the surf that breaks hard over the shallow sand bars in Chathams inlets. Coast Guard spokesman Capt. Eric Bader said the second vessel will arrive in the early summer and that they anticipate a full changeover to the new vessels by the fall.
