JAISWAL TAKES OVER AS CBI CHIEF
NEW DELHI: Subodh Kumar Jaiswal, a 1985 batch IPS officer of the Maharashtra cadre, on Wednesday took over as director of the CBI from additional director Praveen Sinha, who was officiating as an interim director since February after retirement of Rishi Kumar Shukla. His superannuation on completing 60 years of age is on September 22, 2022, but his tenure will be for two years up to May 25, 2023 as decided on Tuesday the Cabinet Committee on Appointments headed by PM Modi. Jaiswal, who was the DGP of Maharashtra, had fallen out with CM Uddhav Thackeray and opted for a Central posting. He became the director general of the CISF in January this year. He relinquished the CISF charge Wednesday morning to assume the new CBI responsibility. IPS officer Subodh Kumar Jaiswal on Wednesday took charge as director of the CBI, officials said.
Jaiswal is a 1985-batch officer of the Maharashtra cadre. He was till now serving as the chief of the CISF. He has also served as Maharashtra s director general of police in the past. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) was working without a regular chief for over three months after Rishi Kumar Shukla completed his two-year tenure on February 3.
Earlier, during the meeting of the high-powered selection committee comprising of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Chief Justice of India NV Ramana and Leader of Congress in Lok Sabha Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, had shortlisted three names, including SSB DG Kumar Rajesh Chandra (1985-Bihar cadre IPS) and Special Secretary (Internal Security) in the MHA VSK Kaumudi (1986- Andhra Pradesh cadre) besides Jaiswal, who is currently holding the office of DG CISF.

Senior IPS officer from Maharashtra Subodh Kumar Jaiswal will be the new Director of the Central Bureau of Investigation.
The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet approved his name from a shortlist prepared by the high power panel, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Justice NV Ramana. Another member of the panel and leader of the Congress in Lok Sabha Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury had moved a dissent note against the shortlist. He said he has reservations about the way the shortlist was prepared.
