Todd Devine News Today

Brian Williams examines the days top political stories and current politicalcampaign news. And Donald Trumps name wasnt mentioned today. Robert muellers name wasnt mentioned today. This trial does not have to do with any connection to the 2016 campaign. Nor does rick gates involvement dovetail with what he did in the 2016 campaign, nor his work on the inaugural committee. Its a highly separate trial involving past clients of Paul Manaforts. I think if were reading between the lines, its the prel...

We take you to the city of buffalo about 300 miles north west of here where donald trump is in the middle of his final rally before tomorrows big primary. Trump was introduced by the coach of the hometown buffalo bills, rex ryan. The bill said ryan was there in a personal capacity and his presence did not constitute endorsement from the team. Theres so much that i admire about mr. Trump. But one thing i really admire about him is, you know what . Hell say whats on his mind. And so many times you...

So hes got a really bad card to play, yet he is still playing it. it all begs the question, why. why is he not trying to get some bigger deal done with robert muellers team. and i dont know if there are great answer to this other than he is waiting for potentially a pardon down the road. >> and josh, weve already had the first strange bedfellow in the first witness. tad devine, he of the liberal left, he of the kerry campaign, the bernie sanders campaign, what was he doing testifying in this tri...

Boony where people are much more gun oriented, driven by that religion, or do they like his personality? >> i think people are so frustrated with government at the local, state, and federal level that they want someone big to take it on. they want that brassy personal to take on the unions, especially the republican base. and i do think that it will translate beyond new jersey, but, you know, we dont know about chris christies record, especially the rest of the country. so, you know, we dont kno...

Them? i have to go back to todd, whos chuckling at the joy youre getting out of this thing. >> listen, i think christies remark right there is the reason hes popular with, you know, people, a lot of people in the country, hes making sense, its ridiculous, he dismisses it as such. but, you know, thats great for him in a democratic primary. its not great in a republican primary. its a very conservative contest. the fact is, when his record and his positions on issues get out there, his appeals goi...

beg the question, why isnt there a tea party on the left? columnist e.j. dionne says the dominance of the right in the political debate has been bad for president obama and bad for political moderates too. and a lot of people cheered when a u.s. drone took out anwar al awlaki, the american citizen who had joined al qaeda. but ron paul is one person asking if its right to assassinate an america and deny him the right to a trial. well get to that tricky one. and let me finish tonight wit...

tried to get rid of the story. good strategy until herman cain called name of the hunting camp just plain insensitive. its the latest hit for a campaign that has discovered its a lot easier to launch a campaign for president than to sustain one. and thats something chris christie might want to take note of as he decides whether to get in the race. could it be that republican primary voters will decide he, chris christie, is too liberal for them? maybe thats one reason christies having ...
