Biddeford-based Ocean’s Balance has established Seaweed Farmer Services, which will dry and mill farmed kelp on an industrial scale.

Ocean’s Balance makes a line of seaweed products designed for use as an ingredient in cooking, as a topping, or to be eaten out of the bag. The seaweed farm and food producer based in Biddeford raised a round of financing from investors in Japan, Norway and the U.S. to expand farming, processing and production.

Americas seaweed farming industry is based principally in Maine, where the business has grown swiftly over the past several years.
