Qatar on Thursday recorded 157 new COVID-19 cases 119 from within the community and 38 among travellers returning from abroad.
The Ministry of Public Health also reported 140 recoveries. With this, the active cases in Qatar edged up to 1,958 while the total recoveries jumped to 140,404.
No new deaths linked to the virus were recorded in the last 24 hours, leaving the death toll so far at 243.

Qatar on Wednesday rolled out the first phase of the free coronavirus (COVID-19) vaccination campaign, with the first jab successfully given to 79-year-old Dr Abdulla Al Kubaisi, a former president of Qatar University.
“As directed by His Highness the Amir of State of Qatar Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, we have worked hard, along with our partners across government, since the early stages of vaccine development at the start of the pandemic to ensure Qatar was among the first countries in the world to provide a safe, effective and approved COVID-19 vaccine totally free for its population. Qatar will receive its first batch of the coronavirus (COVID-19) vaccine on Monday, Prime Minister and Minister of Interior HE Sheikh Khalid bin Khalifa bin Abdulaziz Al Thani has announced on Twitter. “Under the directives of His Highness the Amir, the first shipment of the COVID-19 vaccine will arrive the day after tomorrow, and I have directed the health sector to provide it to everyone in accordance with our health standards,” the PM said on Saturday.
“This is an important step on the road to containing the epidemic and gradually returning life to normal,” the PM said, expressing pride in the success of the plan to confront the disease.

The Qatar Financial Centre (QFC), a leading onshore financial and business centre in the region, has launched its economic impact assessment report entitled, ‘The Economic Impact of Qatar Financial Centre,’ which estimates the economic contribution of the QFC to Qatar, primarily with regard to the gross value added or total GDP contributions and employment across its licensed sectors.
