Uber employees might be at risk of being targeted with phishing attacks soon. Uber got itself hacked yet again. The popular ride-hailing app suffered another data breach - the second one in 2022 and almost three months since the first occurred.

Joe Sullivan, Uber's former head of security, was found guilty of federal obstruction of justice for hiding a cybersecurity incident from the Federal Trade Commission.

Uber Technologies Inc.’s former chief security officer convicted for criminal obstruction and concealing theft of personal data of fifty million Uber customers and seven million Uber drivers from Federal Trade Commission FTC. Hackers stole data from a third-party server.

Uber security chief Joe Sullivan found guilty federal court for failure to disclose breach of Uber customer and driver data to FTC in midst of ongoing FTC investigation. Sullivan charged with obstructing FTC investigation and misprision, concealing a felony from authorities.

Uber says a hacking group called Lapsus$ was behind the cyberattack. The group accessed its internal systems, but the company is still investigating any material impact. 

An 18-year-old hacker had broken into the internal systems of Uber, reaching company tools including Amazon Web Services and Google Cloud Platform, and employees thought someone was playing a prank.

Uber has now confirmed that there is no evidence that the personal data of users such as their trip history, phone numbers etc were compromised in the data breach.

Uber has reported that it is investigating a cyber security incident and also alerted the law-enforcement authorities.
