The Willmar Public School District will continue discussion of asking residents this fall to approve an operating levy of up to $750 per pupil unit and a $6.1 million bond for construction of a new middle school gymnasium.

While discussing a new position for the Willmar Parks and Recreation Department, other councilors and city staff were noticeably uncomfortable with Willmar City Councilor Rick Fagerlie's line of questioning and criticism of the department's director, Rob Baumgarn.

Five people, including three incumbents, are running for Willmar School Board this fall. Three of them will be elected to four-year terms in the Nov. 8 general election.

With three former teachers on the School Board, Superintendent Jeff Holm took his chance at Monday's meeting to urge board members to consider subbing for the district. Substitute teachers are needed at all levels, and the district also has numerous openings in permanent positions.
