HYDERABAD: The by-elections for the Lingojiguda ward under the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) limits commenced at 7AM on Friday amidst strict COVID-19 protocols. Around 57 polling stations have been set up in the ward,where more than 47, 379 people are enrolled as electors in the Lingojiguda ward. As per reports in Telangana Today, 6,164 people cast their votes by 11 AM, which was at 12.52 polling percentage.
The polls were necessitated following the sudden death of BJP corporator-Akula Ramesh Goud, who had won during the GHMC elections held in December 2020.
The Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) had decided against contesting the Lingojiguda ward by-elections after an appeal made by the BJP who in a delegation led by former MLC N Ramachander Rao met TRS working president KT Rama Rao requesting to refrain from contesting on humanitarian grounds. Akula Ramesh Goud s son was fielded as the BJP candidate.

Hyderabad: Polling was underway peacefully in seven urban local bodies in Telangana on Friday amid elaborate arrangements to prevent spread of COVID-19 cases.
On the direction of Telangana High Court, State Election Commission (SEC) took various measures to ensure strict adherence to COVID-19 guidelines during the polling.
Voters lined up since morning to cast their votes in Greater Warangal and Khammam municipal corporations and five municipalities – Siddipet, Jadcherla, Atchampet Kothur and Nakrekal.

Hyderabad, April 30 : Over 70 per cent voters cast their votes in seven urban local bodies in Telangana on Friday amid elaborate arrangements to prevent spread of Covid-19.
According to the State Election Commission (SEC), 71.43 per cent polling was recorded in Greater Warangal and Khammam Municipal Corporations and five municipalities - Siddipet, Jadcherla, Atchampet Kothur and Nakrekal.
The highest turnout of 86.65 per cent was recorded in Nakrekal municipality while Greater Warangal saw lowest polling at 54.74.
The restrictions during the curfew period include closure of all offices, firms, shops, establishments, restaurants etc at 8 pm except hospitals, diagnostic labs, pharmacies and those dealing with the supply of essential services such as media, e-commerce deliveries and Petrol pumps among others.
Movement of people will be prohibited from 9 pm onwards barring government officials, medical personnel and those travelling from or going to airports, railway stations, bus stands on the production of a valid ticket.
Among the relaxations during the curfew, inter-state and intra-state movement and transportation of essential and non-essential goods will be allowed and no separate permission or pass will be required for such movement.

The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) accounted for the most number of cases with 1,441, followed by Medchal Malkajgiri (631) and Rangareddy (484), a government bulletin said on Friday providing details as of 8 PM on April 29.
The total number of cumulative cases in the state stood at 4,35,606 while with 5,926 patients being cured, the total recoveries were at 3,55,618. The state has 77,727 active cases and over 77 thousand samples were tested on Thursday.
