1 killed, 1 injured after car crashes into delivery truck in Cortland County

Town of Homer, N.Y. One person died and another was injured Thursday afternoon when a car crashed into a parked delivery truck in Cortland County.
Michael J. Knickerbocker, of Cincinnatus, the driver of the car, was pronounced dead at a Cortland hospital shortly after the accident on State Route 13 in the town of Homer, said the New York State Police. He was 55 years old.
Knickerbocker was driving southwest on Route 13 when he crashed his Chevrolet Impala into the back of a U-Haul parked on the shoulder of the southbound lane, troopers said.
Man Dies After Car Hits Delivery Truck in Cortland County
A vehicle slammed into a parked U-Haul truck in the town of Homer, resulting in the death of one man and injuries to another.
Authorities say 55-year-old Michael Knickerbocker was driving a Chevrolet Impala struck the truck on Route 13 shortly before 4:30 p.m. Thursday.
According to New York State Police, Knickerbocker was taken Guthrie Cortland Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.
Investigators say a 49-year-old Onondaga County man was looking for a package inside the rear section of the truck when it was hit by the car.
The man, whose name was not released, was taken to Upstate University Hospital in Syracuse for treatment of possible head and neck injuries.

Nicholas Damanski, 35, was arrested and charged with second-degree assault, police said. He is accused of shooting a 42-year-old man in his house near Sylvan Beach.

Nicholas C. Damanski was charged with second-degree criminal possession of a weapon and second-degree assault, police said.
Todd A. Estes, 42, who lives in the house, was shot in the upper torso and is in stable condition, according to police.
It’s unclear how the gun went off, according to New York State Police spokesman Jack Keller. The two men were arguing when one pulled out the weapon, Keller said.
Chittenango Man Arrested Following Shooting Near Sylvan Beach
A Chittenango man is under arrest following a shooting incident that happened at a residence on State Route 13 in the Town of Vienna.
New York State Police say a confrontation that took place at 7289 State Route 13 led to one man being shot and the other being put in handcuffs. Officials say a preliminary investigation indicates 35-year-old Nicholas Damanski of Chittenango and 42-year-old Todd Estes were involved in a physical altercation inside the home, that eventually turned increasingly violent.
Police say at one point during the fight, Damanski allegedly shot Estes with a handgun. Estes was initially transported to Oneida Hospital with a gunshot wound to his torso. He was eventually transferred to Upstate University Hospital in Syracuse for further treatment. He is currently listed in stable condition.
