BARRIE, ONT. One day after reporting the highest number of COVID-19 cases from a weekend, the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit (SMDHU) posted 85 new cases Tuesday. Confirmed cases are listed in Barrie, Bradford, Collingwood, Clearview, Essa, Innisfil, Midland, New Tecumseth, Orillia, Oro-Medonte, Severn, Springwater, Tiny, and Wasaga Beach. One case was reported in the Muskoka area in Gravenhurst. Two locations are pending. Over the weekend, health officials recorded nearly 400 positive tests, an alarmingly high number linked to Easter holiday gatherings. The City of Barrie reports bylaw officers received nearly 30 complaints about large gatherings the week of April 3, following the Easter long weekend.

The Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit has reported 100 new COVID-19 cases and the death of a Barrie resident in today s update (April 9).
The Barrie man who died was over 79 years old, and his case was linked to the outbreak at Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre s cardiac/renal unit. He died on April 6.
The week of April 4-10 could turn out to be a record-setting seven days for the health unit. The health unit has not finished reporting for the week yet, but there have been 402 confirmed cases between April 4 and 10 and the highest number of cases reported in a week was 495 for the week of Jan. 3-9.
BARRIE, ONT. COVID-19 testing clinics across Simcoe Muskoka experienced an influx of patients over the Easter long weekend, resulting in 371 confirmed cases from Friday to Monday. Barrie reported 126 positive tests, Bradford had 71, New Tecumseth had 58, and Innisfil had 37. The remaining infections are listed in Adjala-Tosorontio, Essa, Clearview, Collingwood, Springwater, Oro-Medonte, Tay, Wasaga Beach, Tiny, Midland, Orillia, Severn, and Penetanguishene. Muskoka had eight cases total. They are listed in Muskoka Lakes, Bracebridge, Huntsville and Lake of Bays. The health unit also reports three Simcoe County men over 65 passed away from complications after contracting COVID-19. To date, 203 residents have died with the virus, including 12 last month.
BARRIE, ONT. Residents 50 and older in Simcoe County and Muskoka will be eligible to book an appointment for the COVID-19 vaccine in the coming weeks, the province said Tuesday. The Ontario government is prioritizing communities located in 13 public health units, including Simcoe Muskoka, to curb the spread of COVID-19. Meanwhile, the Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre s (RVH) vaccination clinic on Sperling Drive in Barrie is keeping busy, with vaccine appointments fully booked for the next two weeks for eligible residents. At this time, the health unit s website accepts appointment bookings for those born in 1951 or earlier. And starting Tuesday morning, the Sperling Drive clinic began Phase 2 vaccinations for those 60 to 79 who are associated with hot spot communities, congregate living settings as well as highest and high-risk health conditions.
