Orange County may cap fees that delivery companies charge restaurants

GOSHEN - Orange County may become the third New York county outside New York City to limit food-delivery charges by companies like GrubHub to help restaurants and bars survive the devastating impact the pandemic has had on their businesses. Third-party delivery services could bill restaurants no more than 15 percent of a meal s cost for delivery and no more than 5 percent in other fees under a proposed law approved by an Orange County legislative committee on Wednesday and headed to the full Legislature for a vote on Feb. 4. Those fee limits would apply during declared emergencies and for 90 days afterward. The proposal is based on a law Westchester County passed in October and similar to an executive order that Albany County Executive Dan McCoy signed last month.
