Registered Nurse Wendy Underwood of Ascension Saint Thomas Rutherford Hospital had her own experience as a new mother with a baby in the a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. Her eldest daughter, Amber (pictured above), was born premature at 34 weeks in 1996. âIâve been there, done that, so Iâm very empathetic,â said Underwood, a mother of three. Now, at 25, Amber works alongside her mother on the hospitalâs postpartum floor as an RN as well.

NFC offering ‘rapid credentialing’ and scholarships for EMT, CDL courses
Individuals looking to become an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) or commercial truck driver can get fast (and potentially free) training at North Florida College (NFC) this summer.
Through a partnership with the Florida Department of Education, NFC has Rapid Credentialing Scholarships available that may cover up to 100 percent of tuition, books and associated fees for its EMT class starting June 1 and CDL course beginning on July 30.
Training for both programs can be completed in just one semester (12 weeks for CDL and 16 weeks for EMT), quickly getting students ready for in-demand jobs locally, throughout the state and beyond.

Mathew Conte has been hired as the new fire chief by the Municipality of Jasper and is set to begin his role on May 10.
Since 2005, Conte has been serving as the fire chief and director of emergency management with the Town of Coalhurst, which is 15 kilometres northwest of Lethbridge.
Conte already has an idea of what is required for his new job as he is acquainted with the Jasper area and has heard former Fire Chief Greg Van Tighem speak before at conferences.
