Hyderabad: To reduce the burden on medical and health department staff, who are working as the frontline warriors in the midst of the second wave of COVID-19 surge in the state, the Telangana government is inviting applications from the 50,000-odd medical students who have completed the MBBS and are qualified.
Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao held a high-level review meeting on Sunday at Pragathi Bhavan on the prevailing Covid situation in the state.
The chief minister, who holds the Health portfolio, has also instructed the medical and health officers to appoint for the period of two to three months, doctors, nurses, lab technicians, pharmacists and other para-medical staff immediately and utilise their services in Covid19 treatment. Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday undertook a comprehensive review of the Covid-19 related situation in the country. He was given a detailed picture on the Covid outbreak in various states and districts during a meeting which was also attended by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Home Minister Amit Shah, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, Health Minister Dr Harsh Vardhan, Railway Minister Piyush Goyal, Union Minister Mansukh Mandaviya other ministers and top officials.
 He was informed about the 12 states which have more than 1 lakh active cases. PM was also apprised about the districts with high disease burden, a statement released by the Prime Minister s Office said.

Exam postponed by 4 months amid COVID-19 spike
PM Modi reviewed COVID-19 situation in country on Sunday
New Delhi: The National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (Post Graduate) was on Monday (May 3) postponed for at least four months amid a spike in COVID-19 cases. The decision to postpone the NEET-PG exam was taken a day after Prime Minister Narendra Modi reviewed the COVID-19 situation across the country. He reviewed various measures to augment human resources to manage the prevailing COVID situation effectively.
According to sources, the government does not plan to hold the NEET PG exam 2021 before four months. Also students will be given atleast one month of time after the government announces final exam dates. The government said that it will make a large number of qualified doctors available for COVID-19 duties. This will reduce the workload on the existing doctors engaged in COVID duty and boost the efforts of triaging, it said.
