It is with great sadness we announce the passing of our Matriarch, Nancy Patricia (Dick) Blanchard on January 1, 2021 at Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre, with her family by her side.
Nancy was born on November 8, 1946, in Fort William, Ontario to William and Louise Dick. She was raised first in Macdiarmid, Ontario where her father, a WWII self-enlisted military veteran, was involved in the commercial fisheries. For a short time of Nancy s childhood, she was raised in St. Joseph Residential School which she remembers mostly with fond memories. At age 6 the family moved to Port Coldwell, Ontario where her father dutifully worked fisheries, highways, and then railroad. Her mother, Louise was a fiery free-spirited woman who possessed an artful hand, and powerful intuition. Nancy was educated in the village school of Port Coldwell. The family of Dr. Warren Wanson, age 80 years, announce with profound sadness his passing in St. Joseph s Hospice on January 6, 2021 after a brief illness.
An outdoorsman with many interests, he had a trapper s licence, and also taught gun safety courses for many years with local clubs.
At 14 years of age, he completed a course in taxidermy, stuffing several birds, fish, mammals, even a wolf s head for a district scout troop.
After completing a technical course in geology from Lakehead Technical College (L.U.), he went on to study in the U.S., receiving his M.Sc. in Biology from the University of North Dakota (Grand Forks), before continuing at the University of Nebraska (Lincoln) for a Ph.D. in Parasitology (Acanthocephala).
Moderna vaccine being administered at Sioux Lookout Meno Ya Win Health Centre
Officials with the Sioux Lookout Meno Ya Win Health Centre said they have received the Moderna vaccine, becoming the first rural and northern community to get a supply of the second vaccine approved by Health Canada.
