Ontario reports 3,266 new COVID cases today
There have now been more than 200,000 lab-confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Ontario since the start of the pandemic

Public Health Ontario has reported 3,266 new cases of COVID-19 today.
The province reported 37 deaths in today s update. Of those, 20 were residents of long-term care homes. Ten of the deaths reported today were individuals between 60 and 79 years old, and 27 were over the age of 80.
Since yesterday, 125 people have been hospitalized with COVID-19, and 11 COVID patients have been admitted to intensive care units.

Province extending northern lockdown for two weeks
The medical officer of health recommended the lockdown be extended to prevent more surges of the COVID-19 cases.

THUNDER BAY – Northern Ontario will remain under lockdown for another two weeks, as cases continue to surge across the province.
The province announced late Thursday afternoon that health units in northern parts of the province will remain under lockdown until at least Jan. 23. Students in school boards across the north will be returning to in-person learning on Jan. 11.
The number of active COVID-19 cases in the Thunder Bay District is declining but the medical officer of health is warning we are the exception to the rule and did recommend to the province that the district remain in lockdown for another two weeks.

THUNDER BAY – There were nine new cases of COVID-19 announced on Thursday by the Thunder Bay District Health Unit.
The latest cases bring the district’s total to 630 since the pandemic began. Fifty-four of those cases are currently considered active.
Of the nine new cases, five are considered close contact exposures and one is related to travel outside of Northwestern Ontario. Two more are pending exposure types and one has no known exposure.

The medical officer of health for the Thunder Bay District says she would support northern areas remaining in lockdown for another two weeks, along with the rest of Ontario.
The Thunder Bay District Health Unit announced six new cases on Wednesday, all in Thunder Bay and the surrounding area. Four are close contacts of existing cases while two had travelled outside of northwestern Ontario.
The health unit reported 17 previously announced cases as being resolved, lowering the active case count to 48. The Wednesday case announcement is the eighth consecutive day with a single-digit increase in new cases.
The health unit s COVID-19 dashboard shows 4 patients hospitalized with COVID-19, with one in the intensive care unit.
The health unit also warned that some passengers on two Air Canada Jazz flights from Toronto to Thunder Bay are at a low risk of COVID-19 exposure.
