MANGALURU: A mob in Melanthabettu of Belthangady taluk assaulted two men on Wednesday believing them to be cattle thieves, according to the police, which rescued the victims. Police arrested five people in connection with the incident.
The victims, identified as Abdul Rahim and Musthafa, residents of Kupetti in Belthangady sustained grievous injuries and are undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Mangaluru. The police have arrested Rajesh Bhat, Rakesh Bhat, Guruprasad, Lokesh and Chidanand for the assault, while few others are yet to be arrested.

The Jharkhand Police on Saturday arrested the director of a non-governmental organisation in Khunti district after over 15 students accused him of sexual assault,
The Indian Express reported.
Khunti Superintendent of Police Ashutosh Shekhar told the newspaper that the accused runs an institute in the district. As per the complaint, he allegedly used to call girls to a private chamber there, and sexually harass them on the pretext of giving them a “tolerance test”.
The complaint against the man was filed by social activist Lakhsmi Bakhla. “After initial probe, the director has been arrested,” Shekhar said.

A 28-year-old man was arrested in Delhi s Uttam Nagar for allegedly befriending women and duping them by extorting money on the pretext of some serious illness affecting his family members, police said on Friday.
The accused, Mohit Goyal, demanded money from women by emotionally blackmailing them and changed his mobile number soon after receiving the amount from them, they said.
