NEW DELHI: India on Sunday witnessed 3,689 Covid-19 fatalities which pushed India s death toll to 2,15,542, while the infection count reached to 1,95,57,457 with 3,92,488 more people being confirmed positive for the disease, according to the Union health ministry data updated on Sunday.
The data updated at 8 am showed the active cases crossed the 33-lakh mark.
Registering a steady increase, the active cases have increased to 33,49,644, comprising 17.13 per cent of the total infections, while the national Covid-19 recovery rate has further dropped to 81.77 per cent.
The number of people who have recuperated from the disease surged to 1, 59,92,271, while the case fatality rate has further dropped to 1.10 per cent, the data stated.
He appealed that in the middle of the pandemic, blood donation has become more important because in the midst of deepening crisis, the supply of blood has become extremely difficult. He also called upon the people, especially the youth, to be a part of this cause.
April so far is the deadliest month since the beginning of the pandemic and the last seven days alone accounted for half of the deaths reported in the entire month.
Monday was the sixth day in a row when India’s Covid count for the past 24 hours exceeded 3 lakh (3.2 lakh on Monday) and deaths crossed the 2,000 mark for the seventh consecutive day.

New Delhi: India reported 2,00,739 new Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours, the biggest single-day spike ever, taking the overall tally to 1,40,74,564, cases on Thursday, according to the Health Ministry data.
India s daily deaths due to Covid are also rising with 1,038 new deaths reported on Thursday, the second consecutive day with over thousand deaths. This took the overall death toll in the country to 1,73,123.
A total of 93,528 patients recovered in the same time span, taking the number of recoveries to 1,24,29,564 with a recovery rate of 88.31 per cent.
