SALISBURY, Md. A beloved husband, a beloved son, brother, father and friend to everyone he knew.
Someone who knew how to enjoy the simple things in life like watching his son play baseball and visiting his mother.

A gentle giant.
A hero to the end.
These are just a few of the memories friends, family and fellow officers offered Monday afternoon as they paid tribute to Cpl. Keith Heacook, who was killed in the line of duty.
“On April 24, Keith was getting ready for his midnight shift. Your thoughts are not, ‘What’s going to happen to me today?’ It’s, ‘Does the kid have a game? Do I gotta go to the bank? Am I getting enough sleep for my side job?’ ” said Heacook s cousin Larry Schwartz, a retired law enforcement officer.

A cousin of a Delawarepolice officerwho was fatally beaten by an unarmed suspect last month used his funeral Monday to rail against the media and politicians for underplaying the risks law enforcement face on the job.
Speaking during the funeral at the Emmanuel Wesleyan Church in Salisbury, Maryland, Delmar Police Cpl. Keith Heacook’s cousin, Larry Schwartz, who identified himself as a retired law enforcement officer, challenged that media coverage would have played out differently if the roles were reversed and Heacook had killed the suspect and himself survived. Schwartz argued that lawmakers and the media advocate to defund the police and for the removal of qualified immunity, saying criminals don t always comply and unarmed criminals can kill you.
