Rockford Police & Fire Are Battling for The Salvation Army Today
If 2020 was a normal year, members of the Rockford Police and Fire Departments would be out at stores Stateline stores this week ringing bells and collecting money for The Salvation Army, but it s 2020, so a switch-up had to happen.
Here s what hasn t changed in 2020.The Rockford Police and Fire Departments are still battling it out today to see who can raise the most money for The Salvation Army s Red Kettle campaign, but it s a completely virtual battle this year.
Typically, the Rockford Police Department ends victoriously in the Battle of the Bells , but as I sit here writing this, the Rockford Fire Department is currently smokin their buddies in blue.
Riverfest sponsored the $10,000 match effort on Friday.
The match raised a little more than 26- thousand dollars.
Then a donor stepped forward to give another $13,000.
You can still help at kettles throughout our area and at a virtual red kettle available here.
The Red Kettle campaign runs through Thursday.

SEAFORD, Del. – The Salvation Army is making sure no child goes without a Christmas gift this year.
Today both the Sussex County Salvation Army and the Maryland Salvation Army of the Lower Eastern Shore distributed hundreds of toys to children in need.
In Sussex County, the Salvation Army is servicing around 500 children for Christmas. Today, the organization also provided food boxes for families in need. They say this year they experienced an increase in the number of people needing help.
“This year we experienced an increase in need,” said Sussex County Salvation Army Lieutenant Kathryn Alban Guerrero.
“Last year we serviced around 400 kids,” said Guerrero, “It’s about 100 more kids that we’re servicing this year so we’re just really grateful that we’re still able to help out.”
