The question: Will it continue, particularly as more people are vaccinated, or could new and more transmissible strains of the virus fuel another wave?
Unfortunately, the answer isn’t clear and likely won’t be for several weeks if not months.
Oregon recorded 7,860 confirmed or presumed coronavirus infections for the week ending Sunday, Jan. 17, down 4% from the previous week. The decline isn’t a mirage: Testing volume grew but total cases, and the percentage of positive cases, fell.
The decline is even more pronounced for the current week which, although not complete, it on track to have the fewest cases since October.
