New Illinois coach to make homegrown talent a priority | Taiwan News

(AP) New Illinois coach Bret Bielema said Monday he hopes to have a staff in place by early January and is already concentrating on homegrown recruiting. “I called (the Illinois Department of Transportation) and told them to put up roadblocks so kids won’t be allowed to leave the state,” he joked at his introductory news conference. “Seriously, I can’t tell you how many Illinois high school football coaches I have talked to already. We are making Illinois kids a priority here.” Bielema, a native of tiny Prophetstown in northwestern Illinois, replaces Lovie Smith, who went 17-39 overall in his five-year tenure and posted a 10-33 Big Ten record. Bielema’s initial contract is for six years beginning with an annual salary of $4.2 million.

Illinois Eastern Community Colleges will have three full-term Board of Trustees seats to be filled in the upcoming Consolidated Election. Current Board Chairman G. Andrew Fischer will not seek re-election, and Barbara Shimer and Jan Ridgely will also see their seats expire. Shimer and Ridgely have filed petitions for the seats, as have Roger Browning, Jeff Cutchin, and Brady Waldrop. The City of Fairfield reminds people Sunrise Sanitation will run the January bulk pick-up route for city trash customers on January 8 th due to the New Year’s Holiday. Routes are normally run on the first Friday of each month. As always, they are run in the early morning hours, so people should be sure to set their items curbside the evening of January 7

Naperville Police: Drive sober and stay off the naughty list this holiday season

  Posted12/18/2020 6:40 PM The Naperville Police Department is partnering with the Illinois Department of Transportation and law enforcement throughout the state for a high-visibility enforcement campaign to crack down on impaired driving during the winter holidays. From Dec. 18 to Jan. 4, 2021, motorists will see an increase in patrols and traffic stops, along with additional messaging on the dangers of driving impaired.   During this season of caring, let s remember to extend our goodwill to fellow motorists, said Naperville Police Sgt. Rick Krakow. The best way we can do that is by making a commitment to drive sober and thereby help ensure that we all make it to our destinations safely.
