WOODRIDGE, IL Drivers in Woodridge will see an increase in patrols and traffic stops through Jan. 4 as part of the Woodridge Police Department s participation in a statewide winter holidays high-visibility traffic enforcement campaign. The Woodridge Police Department is partnering with the Illinois Department of Transportation and law enforcement throughout the state for the campaign to crack down on impaired driving during the holidays, during which motorists will also see an increase in messaging on the dangers of driving impaired.

The Lake County Sheriff s Office recommends these safe alternatives to driving impaired: Plan ahead for a sober ride home. Designate a sober driver, take public transportation or use a ride-sharing service. If you re with a friend or family member who intends to drive impaired, take their keys away and make arrangements to get them home safely.

DeKALB – The DeKalb Police Department, in conjunction with the Illinois Department of Transportation and other state authorities, will be increasing efforts to crack down on drunk and impaired driving throughout the Christmas season, according to a Thursday news release.
From Friday to Jan. 4, DeKalb Police will be increasing the number of patrols and traffic stops they make, in an effort to combat and deter impaired driving, according to the news release.
A similar campaign on Halloween saw DeKalb Police issued 31 traffic citations and make two arrests. Their campaign efforts over Thanksgiving yielded similar numbers of arrests and citations, according to the news release.

Port projects near the confluence of the Mississippi and Ohio rivers in southern Illinois and western Kentucky are moving forward, with the Illinois project expected to break ground as soon as late spring.
Alexander-Cairo Port
The Illinois Department of Transportation signed the first round of intergovernmental grant agreements the first week of December, formally allocating the first $4 million of the $40 million promised by the state to the Alexander-Cairo Port District.
“So we’re off and running,” said Sen. Dale Fowler, who has championed the establishment of the port in his district, which includes Cairo. “That’s a very important first step.”

Work is being done on Interstate 74 between Galesburg and Peoria Friday night.
The Illinois Department of Transportation says that the periodic full closure of I-74 over French Creek about a mile west of the Peoria/Knox County Line beginning at around 10:00 pm.
Work is expected to last until 6:00 am Saturday as crews place new bridge beams. Electronic message signs will be in place to remind motorists and Illinois State Police will be present prior to any closings.
Drivers are asked to avoid the area if feasible, using alternate routes, and to pay close attention to changing conditions and signs in the work zones as well as obey posted speed limits and avoid using mobile devices.
