Wayne City High School held its awards day program Friday. Over $535,000 in awards were announced during the program. Among the scholarships awarded and the scholarship recipients were: Jaxson Youngblood, receiving the Wayne County VFW Scholarship in the amount of $2000. Youngblood and Jayden Bailey also were winners of the Orlen Brach and Babe Ward Vocational Scholarships. Adam Loker received the IAA Foundation Harris Thomas Scholarship in the amount of $2000. Jayden Bailey received the Edward and Emma Cole Memoral Scholarship in the amount of $3200 for two years. Several other scholarships worth up to $1000 each were awarded. Jaden Boyd, Madelyn Caudle, Jarrett Lewis, Adam Loker, Kalyn Meritt and Kelcee Seymour were named Illinois State Scholars. The Illinois Department of Public Health reported 2129 new cases of the coronavirus Saturday and 21 additional deaths. State numbers as of this morning are at 1,353,226 cases and 22,193 deaths. Work safe. Save lives.”   Throughout the construction season, officials said the public should be on alert for lane closures, changes in traffic patterns, reduced speed limits and the presence of workers and equipment.  Motorists are advised to heed the following guidelines for traveling through work zones: Drop it and drive. Two IDOT trucks struck by a vehicle on I-39

May 6, 2021 5/6/21 – Photo Mendota Police Department MENDOTA – The driver of a van was life-flighted with serious injuries after reportedly striking two different Illinois Department of Transportation trucks on I-39 on Thursday.   Around 10 AM Mendota and Troy Grove Fire Departments were called to the southbound lanes near the US Route 34 exit for a crash with entrapment.  The van had allegedly struck the rear of one IDOT truck, hitting the attached attenuator, then proceeded to hit another IDOT truck and attached asphalt trailer.  LaSalle Fire Department assisted in the crash, and no injuries to state workers or first responders was reported.   The crash remains under investigation by the Illinois State Police.
