Hopes dashed for Spalding, Holbeach, Donington, Crowland and Long Sutton residents after district was unable to escape tier 3 Published: 16:11, 24 December 2020
Hopes have been dashed for business and residents in South Holland after it was unable to escape from tier 3 restrictions.
Pressure on Peterborough City Hospital following a surge of cases in the city, which has now been placed in tier 4, along with rising numbers in South Holland itself, were among the reasons why the district was not moved down a level.
According to the Government figures, South Holland recorded 191 positive tests between December 9 and 15, which places the rates at 206.3 per 100,000.
BUSINESSES and pub landlords are being encouraged to apply for additional support to help them overcome the financial impact of the coronavirus pandemic.
Tendring Council’s latest Local Restrictions Support Grant provides funding for businesses that remained open during the district’s stint in Tier 2. It follows the period of national restrictions which ended December 2 and comes after the Government announced plans to move Tendring into Tier 4 on Boxing Day. Additionally, a one-off grant of £1,000 has been made available for wet-led pubs which have remained open or where the pub closed following the second lockdown. Authority officials are working their way through a high number of applications made under earlier phases of grant schemes, and some businesses have reported delays.
Copeland council is inviting wet-led pubs in Copeland to apply for a £1,000 Christmas Support Payment. The Government grant for wet-led pubs is a one-off payment for premises that fall under Tier 2 or 3 restrictions between December 2 and 29. Cumbria is currently under Tier 2, therefore the borough’s wet-led pubs are eligible for this payment. Wet-led pubs are those that derive under 50 per cent of their income from food sales. Businesses that are also in receipt of other Local Restrictions Support Grants (LRSG) or the Additional Restrictions Grant – can receive this grant. Businesses must have been trading before the national restrictions were imposed on November 5, 2020.
