Concerns raised over roadwork impact on retail

It’s feared roadworks in and around the capital could discourage shoppers from heading into the high street. A number of infrastructure projects are currently being carried out which are affecting traffic going in and out of Douglas town centre. Many retailers have been heavily impacted by coronavirus restrictions and efforts are now turning to ensuring they get the support they need to survive. Douglas Council Leader David Christian discussed the issue with Local Democracy Reporter Chris Cave:

Review to take place into Council tribunal handling Authority ordered to pay worker more than £5,000
The leader of Douglas Council has confirmed an independent review is to take place into the handling of a recent employment tribunal.
It surrounds the case of a gully operative who was ruled to have been unlawfully deducted pay during the coronavirus pandemic.
A statement issued said the local authority did not accept or agree with the decision, however, it was sent out before being approved by council members.
