NORRISTOWN â A Philadelphia man wonât face the death penalty if heâs convicted of first-degree murder for his alleged role in the November 2020 fatal shooting of a Norristown man, according to prosecutors.
Based on the legal standards and the factors they can consider under the law, Montgomery County prosecutors explained on Friday they will not seek a death sentence if Gerard Gethers is convicted of first-degree murder, which is an intentional killing, in connection with the alleged Nov. 3, 2020, slaying of Jerry âSpiderâ White in Norristown.
âAfter examining and weighing the evidence concerning aggravating factors and after being provided with mitigating evidence by defense counsel, we have decided not to pursue the death penalty in this case,â Montgomery County District Attorney Kevin R. Steele said.
