United Way EUP celebrating reading month

To celebrate 2021 March is Reading Month, the United Way of the Eastern Upper Peninsula and its Retired and Senior Volunteer program are hosting a reading event.
Volunteers from the Coast Guard, Lake Superior State University, the United Way s Reading Buddies and more will be recorded reading a children s story. The story will be posted to the United Way s YouTube channel every day throughout the month of March. These videos will be shared across social media and in our classrooms to help promote reading and literacy in the area.

SAULT STE. MARIE Lake Superior State University junior business administration major and U.S. Coast Guard reservist Madelyn Swanson has received the 2020-21 Amy Ignatowski Memorial Award from LSSU.
The $500 award is bestowed annually to an LSSU student who is an active Coast Guard member or reservist or the dependent of one stationed at the Sault Ste. Marie sector. The recipient is chosen on the recommendation of a selection committee that includes Coast Guard Sector Sault Ste. Marie senior command, a member of the Ignatowski family, and a representative from the LSSU Foundation Office.
