Despite the speed bump posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change is rolling toward completion of its Sixth Assessment Report, the latest in a series that began in 1990.
Snow, ice and sub-zero temperatures see 2 new weather warnings issued

Status Yellow warnings have been issued by Met Éireann for the full country – one for snow/ice and the other for low temperatures – with both alerts coming into effect tonight (Wednesday, January 6).
The two alerts, issued simultaneously at 11:00am this morning, come with the country in the midst of an ongoing cold snap.
The first warning, a
Status Yellow low temperature / ice warning for Ireland – will come into effect at 8:00pm this evening. It will remain in place until 10:00am tomorrow.
The national meteorological office warns that conditions will be very cold, with minima widely falling to -3° or -4° overnight.

“There is a risk of hail and isolated thunderstorms. Showers will become more frequent in the afternoon, especially along eastern coasts. Highest temperatures of 3C to 6C but feeling colder in fresh and gusty northerly winds. Remaining showers or longer spells of rain in eastern areas will gradually clear south-eastwards overnight and it will become dry in many areas with clear spells. Showers will persist in parts of the west and northwest, however, with a continued risk of hail. Lows of -1C to 3C. North-westerly winds will fall light to moderate overnight, but they will continue fresh on coasts.

IT’S GOING TO be a cold and frosty end to 2020 with snow and ice warnings in place for some counties.
A Status Yellow snow/ice warning is in place for Louth, Cavan and Monaghan until midday today.
Met Éireann has warned that falls of snow in places this morning will lead to accumulations in some areas.
In the North, the UK Met Office has issued a Yellow ice and snow warning for counties Antrim, Armagh, Fermanagh, Tyrone and Derry. This warning will remain in place until 11am today.
