Source: United Kingdom London Metropolitan Police A man has been jailed for assaulting two police officers after he had been found intoxicated in Kingsbury. Theiventhiram Balakumar, 58 (22.10.62) of no fixed abode was sentenced to six months’ imprisonment after being found guilty of two counts of assault by beating of an emergency services worker at Willesden Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, 6 May. The incident happened on 9 September 2020 when officers from the North West Command Unit were called to Princes Avenue, NW9 following reports of a man collapsed at the rear of a property. The officers attended and found Balakumar lying on the ground, apparently intoxicated. The officers informed him he had to get up but he became abusive and kicked one of them in the leg.

The victim of a fatal stabbing in Putney has been identified. An investigation was launched after police were called at approximately 11:05hrs on Thursday, 6 May following reports of a man found deceased at a residential address in Dowdeswell Close, SW15. Officers and London Ambulance Service attended. The man, aged 24, had suffered stab injuries. His next of kin have been informed and formal identification has taken place – he is Abdirizak Hassan. Abdirizak’s family are being supported by specialist officers. A post-mortem examination took place at St George’s Hospital Mortuary on Saturday, 8 May and gave cause of death as a stab injury.

A police investigation has been launched following the death of a man in Hackney. Police were called to reports of shots fired in Gillett Square, Dalston at 0056hrs on Saturday, 8 May. Officers attended and found a seriously injured man, believed to be aged in his 30s. Despite the efforts of emergency services, the man was pronounced dead at the scene. Enquiries are under way to confirm the man’s identity and inform his next of kin. Officers are also working to establish the exact nature of the man’s injuries. A post-mortem examination will be arranged in due course. A crime scene remains in place. No arrest has been made at this early stage.

Detectives are appealing for help to identify a man whose body was recovered from water in 1981. Forty years ago this week, at the Grand Union Canal in Southall, the body of a man was pulled from the water. His death was not thought to have been suspicious. Despite extensive enquiries made in May 1981 and continued efforts over the past four decades, the man was never identified. Officers hope that this appeal, which forms part of a cold case review, may prompt someone to think about a family member or friend that they lost touch with forty years ago who looked similar to the artist’s impression that was compiled based on how the man looked at the time of his death.

MIL-OSI Security: Barking assault: Police appeal for information

Detectives are appealing for information following a violent assault in Barking. At around 20:25hrs on Tuesday, 4 May, police were called to reports of a stabbing at Thurlestone Avenue. Officers and London Ambulance Service [LAS] attended. At the scene, a man, aged in his 30s, had been attacked by a group of males and had suffered a number of knife wounds. The victim, who was with his 12-year-old son at the time of the incident, was taken by LAS to an east London hospital where his condition was not life threatening. The child was not injured but was, understandably, distressed. Detective Sergeant Sajid Asghar of East Area Command said: “This was a violent and seemingly unprovoked attack on the victim and it was sheer luck that the victim did not sustain more serious injuries.
