The United Nations honored three Filipino staff members who lost their lives in the line of duty.
The three Filipino UN staff members honored were Joanna Abaya, who served at the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF); Dr. Ronald Santos, at the United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq; and Maria Luisa Almirol Castillo, at the United Nations High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR), The Department of Foreign Affairs said in a statement on May 11.

ROME, May 11 2021 (IPS) - We met 22-year old Ali B. in a park in Rome’s city center on a rather cold and windy April evening. We could not share a meal, or even a coffee, as all restaurants were shut due to continuing COVID-19 restrictions. He had travelled down from Cerveteri (a small town about 50km north of Rome) where he works for an old couple. They provide boarding and lodging as well as a decent salary and social security benefits. In return, he has to cook for them and look after the kitchen.
A Ministerial Conference on Migration Flow Management will be held on 11 May next at 09h00 (Lisbon time), organised under the scope of the Portuguese Presidency of the Council of the European Union
The conference, in hybrid format, will take place in the Centro Cultural de Belém, Lisbon, and is one of the main initiatives of the Portuguese Presidency in the migration area, as well as an opportunity for further political dialogue with the countries of North Africa.
Taking part in the conference will be the Ministers for Home Affairs of the Member States of the European Union and Ministers and representatives of partner countries - Algeria, Egypt, Libya, Mauritania, Morocco, Niger, Senegal and Tunisia.
