New Delhi [India], May 9 (ANI): Himanta Biswa Sarma, who was elected as the leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) legislative party in Assam, said that the state s new Cabinet will take oath at 12 noon on Monday.
The BJP leader will be sworn in as the next chief minister of Assam after Sarbananda Sonowal.
A legislative party meeting was held today to decide the next chief minister of the state. BJP chief JP Nadda had also chaired a meeting regarding the same in Delhi.
Sarbananda Sonowal on Sunday tendered his resignation to Governor Jagdish Chandra Mukhi at Raj Bhavan, Assam.
Himanta Biswa Sarma joined the BJP ahead of the 2014 assembly elections after over a decade in Congress. He held several key portfolios in the Sonowal-led outgoing government.
NEW DELHI: Himanta Biswa Sarma is set to be the next chief minister of Assam pipping Sarbananda Sonowal to the post. The swearing-in ceremony will be held on Monday.
The announcement came after the newly-elected legislative members of the assembly ratified the decision during a meeting at the Library Auditorium in Guwahati today.
BJP leaders BL Santosh, Baijayant Jay Panda and Ajay Jamwal were also present at the Assam Legislative Assembly for the BJP Legislative Party meet where Himanta s claim over the top post was upheld by the MLAs.

Himanta Biswa Sarma will be the 15th Chief Minister of Assam.
Outgoing Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal proposed his name as the BJP Legislature Party leader soon after tendering his resignation to Governor Jagdish Mukhi on Sunday.
State BJP president Ranjeet Kumar Dass and the newly-elected Nandita Garlosa seconded Mr. Sonowal.
Mr. Sarma, who became the BJP’s chief poll strategist after switching over from the Congress in 2015, was later named as Mr. Sonowal’s successor.

Guwahati, May 9 : The BJP s lead strategist in northeastern states and senior leader Himanta Biswa Sarma, who was on Sunday elected as the leader of the newly elected MLAs of the party, will take charge as the 15th Chief Minister of Assam on Monday.
