PHOTO: FILE ISLAMABAD: The federal cabinet has approved introducing a new budget to slap taxes amounting to Rs140 billion to meet a condition of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), as the cost of tax exemptions swelled by another one-fifth to nearly Rs1.4 trillion in the current fiscal year. The cabinet meeting, chaired by Prime Minister Imran Khan, approved the Income Tax Second Amendment Act 2021 after resisting the IMF demand for over a year.

ISLAMABAD: Minister for Infor-mation and Broadcasting Senator Shibli Faraz on Sunday said the prime minister was giving special emphasis to checking inflation and controlling prices of daily-use commodities. Addressing a press conference, he said targeted subsidy would be given to people on essential items, including electricity tariff. The dream of owning a personal home by the poor would be materialised under the new housing scheme launched by the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) government, he said. The minister said ‘universal’ insurance had been given to the entire population of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa through the Insaf Sehat card and the same would be replicated in Punjab. The country’s economy, he added, had been stabilised and its benefits would reach the poor soon.

Senator Shibli Faraz briefed the Prime Minister on the Digital Advertising Policy proposed by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting and said that proposal of formulation of this policy was given keeping in view the increasing internet users. The Minister said that do currently 93 million Internet users in Pakistan while this number is rapidly increasing and there is no digital media advertising mechanism exist.
