STEWARTVILLE A fire destroyed a barn Tuesday, May 11, afternoon near Stewartville.
Around 1:30 p.m., the Stewartville Fire Department was called to a structure fire on County Road 15 Southwest. According to Olmsted County Sheriff s Capt. Scott Behrns, the structure collapsed shortly after.
The 52-year-old property owner had a burn permit and was burning brush when the surrounding grass caught fire and spread to the barn, which became engulfed in flames, Behrns said Wednesday morning.

(ABC 6 News) The Olmsted County Sheriff s Office said a 72-year-old man from Orion Township sent $22,185 worth of checks to different places across the U.S. since September 2020.
The man told authorities he received a phone call from someone claiming to be from the IRS.
He said they told him he needed to send them his money to make it more secure, because of all the scams circulating.
He said they also threatened to send a police officer to his home if he did not send the money.
The Olmsted County Sheriff s Office said the man s two children caught on and they notified authorities.

Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) - A Rochester man was arrested over the weekend after authorities say he led an Olmsted County deputy on a high-speed chase.
A deputy clocked a vehicle at 93 mph while driving south on Highway 52 near Oronoco around 4:00 am Sunday.
The driver of the vehicle exited the highway at 65th St and was pursued for about 15 minutes before parking at an apartment complex. The deputy could not initially find the suspected driver but eventually located him in one of the apartments.

OLMSTED COUNTY, Minn. - A 72-year-old man lost more than $22,000 after sending checks to various states since Sept. of 2020.
The Olmsted County Sheriff s Office said he sent $22,185 over the course of the past few months after he got a phone call from someone claiming to be an IRS agent.
The person said he needed to make his money more secure or an officer would show up to his house and arrest him.
Rural Olmsted County Man Falls For IRS Scam
Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) - The Olmsted County Sheriff’s Office is investigating an IRS-related scam.
A 72-year-old rural Olmsted County man told investigators he received a phone call last September from a person who said he was an IRS agent. The caller told the victim the IRS was reaching out to taxpayers to help protect them from scams.
Over a period of months, the victim sent checks to various addresses. By the time his family became aware, the man was out of $22,000.
Sheriff’s Capt. Scott Behrns says the case serves as another example to the public about IRS-related phone calls. He says the IRS never calls taxpayers as the agency’s communication is through the mail system.
