Sheriff warns of more scams

 Recently two additional scams have been reported.  A case in Orion Township involving a 78-year-old woman resulted in her losing over $29,000 to scammers. This scam involved a call placed to the victim claiming to be an Amazon employee verifying the victim had purchased $8,000 in Apple products. When the purchase was disputed, the employee claimed to transfer the caller to the Michigan State Police (MSP) to make a report. The person claiming to be a trooper from MSP told the victim she must make a report, which included giving this alleged trooper all of her banking information. The victim became suspicious and asked for a phone number for the alleged investigator and was provided a legitimate MSP phone number, but with instructions not to call the number as whomever would answer may not be familiar with her case. The victim was then transferred to an alleged US Treasury agent who told her she was a victim of identity theft. In the span of three days, the victim was told

Overdosed Brighton man revived with naloxone at Lyon Township Speedway

On- and off-duty emergency responders were able to revive an apparently overdosing Speedway gas station customer in Lyon Township this week. According to the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office, a deputy was at the Speedway station at the corner of Pontiac Trail and Nine Mile Road, at about 1:35 p.m. Tuesday when another customer reported that a man was turning blue on the floor. The deputy found an off-duty Southfield firefighter trying to administer CPR to the victim, a 35-year-old man from Brighton Township. The deputy administered two doses of naloxone, an opioid overdose antidote. Lyon Township firefighters arrived and asked deputies to deliver a third dose.

11-month-old boy found dead in Oxford Township home

11-month-old boy found dead in Oxford Township home The Oakland County Sheriff s Office is investigating the death of an 11-month-old boy from Oxford Township, who was found  dead Wednesday. Deputies responded to the 400 block of Brookhollow Drive around 9:30 a.m., and discovered the infant, who was obviously deceased, according to a news release.  Authorities said the boy s guardian placed him on a blanket in the living room to sleep. She checked on the infant throughout the night, but in the morning, found the infant wrapped up in the blanket and not breathing.

David Dexter Watkins, 30, was charged with three counts of indecent exposure, a misdemeanor carrying a maximum penalty of a year in jail and a $1,000 fine for each count, according to the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office. Watkins also had outstanding warrants for two separate incidents of resisting and obstructing, driving while license suspended and a license/title/registration violation from 50th District Court.
