ZANESVILLE – Ray Ballard has known some twists and turns to get where he is.
“I discovered the band KISS when I was 10,” he began, “and fell head over heels in love with rock n roll. I soon had a guitar and lessons. I wanted to be a rock star. I moved to Los Angeles in 1985 and I played in bands on the Sunset Strip in Hollywood trying to get discovered. I got everything out of the dream except the fame and the fortune. I had a great time not making it and I don’t regret going for it.”
He left California in the mid-90s and moved to Connecticut. Through a co-worker there, he met an East Hartford businessman who wanted to open a brewery. Ballard co-founded that brewery in 2000 and was the brewer for the first three years.

ZANESVILLE - Local two-year colleges are trying to recruit new students after lower spring enrollment followed an abrupt change for on-campus learning. This year might’ve been a little tougher for returning students, said Jason Howard, Ohio University Zanesville director of enrollment. But it wasn t all bad, Howard said. Remote learning turned out to be attractive to some students, a surprising observation amid mixed reviews for the screens-only classroom approach.

Charles Byron “Wally” McAuley, 71 of Caldwell, Ohio
Charles Bryon “Wally” McAuley, age 71,of Caldwell, Ohio, died on Friday, May 7, 2021, at Marietta Memorial Hospital.
