Kano/Jigawa customs command generates N5 5bn revenue

By Rabiu Sani-Ali Kano, March 9, 2021 The Kano/Jigawa Area Command of Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) generated more than N5.526 billion revenue in the last two months. The Customs Area Controller, Mr Suleiman Pai-Umar, said this at a news conference in Kano on Tuesday. Pai-Umar said the service generated N5.526 billion revenue between January and February 2021. He explained that N2.954 billion was generated in January, while N2.571 billion was generated in February. The Controller said the sevice generated over N24 billion revenue in 2020, stressing that the figure surpassed the projected target of N20 billion revenue by over N4 billion. Pai-Umar said the service also made various seizures with Duty Paid Value (DPV) of N148, 112 million within the last two months, adding that the seized items included exotic cars, rice, used clothes, vegetable and pasta, among others.

Customs Intercepts Items Worth N79m In Katsina

Channels Television    Officers of the Katsina Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service have intercepted goods worth N79,757,100. The items seized form part of the achievements recorded from the month of January 8th, 2021 to date. Customs Area Comptroller in the state, Adewale Musa Aremu at a press briefing lamented that the border communities are not helping the officers in their operations instead they are making the operations highly difficult across all the entry points. He pledged to continue to be on the smugglers’ neck in effort to stop smuggling across the state, assuring readiness to deal decisively with smugglers in the state.

Customs seize contraband items worth N270 million in 2021

The Kano/Jigawa Command of the Nigeria custom Service yesterday disclosed the seizure of contraband and smuggled items worth over N270 million Duty Paid Value. The command said it has generated the sum of N5.5 billion as Internally Generated Revenue, IGR between January and March 2021. Area Command Controller, Kano/Jigawa command, Comptroller Suleiman Umar disclosed the seizure while conducting journalists round the seized items at the command headquarters in Kano State. x Umar said that Customs is battle-ready to rid the franchise states of smuggled goods. He stated the seizures were made during its smart intelligence-gathering anchored through the joint efforts of Customs Intelligence Unit and Customs Police between January till date.

Yusuf who explained that the service intercepted 554 cartons of tramadol, 989 cartons of unregistered pharmaceutical products and other prohibited items at Apapa port, added that the movement of one of the containers is still being tracked in Togo. “With the support of my management team we are able to make the following intervention, one 40ft container loaded with sacks of mosquito coil products but falsely declared as ground paper and packaging paper bag, seven containers loaded with bales of used clothing and shoes and one container of unregistered pharmaceutical product (989) cartons of mixagrip tabs wrongfully declared as winches and gaskets.” He said the Command has launched a preliminary investigation with a view to identifying the consignee’s for arrest and possible prosecution in connection with this criminal and unlawful importation.
