Man, 70, impaired by prescription drugs pleads guilty in fatal head-on crash

A driver who was impaired by prescription drugs during a fatal head-on crash in Lacey Township pleaded guilty on Thursday to vehicular manslaughter and driving under the influence.
William Orr, 70, of Whiting, was operating a 2018 Hyundai Elantra westbound on Lacey Road on Sept. 28, 2018 when he crossed over the center line and struck a 2017 Nissan Sentra being driven by Elizabeth Patashinsky, 40, of Palm Bay, Florida. Patashinsky was taken to Community Medical Center in Toms River, where she died.
Orr did not appear impaired and could not perform field sobriety tests due to a back injury, and was also transported to the hospital where he consented to having his blood drawn, the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office said.
A Lakewood elementary school was temporarily placed on lockdown Tuesday morning after a student threatened another with a box cutter, officials said.
District spokesman Michael Inzlbuch told New Jersey 101.5 that a fifth-grade girl at the Oak Street School threatened another with the aluminum box cutters around 10:30 a.m. The weapon went undetected by the school s metal detector.
The school was placed on lockdown for about 15 minutes, Inzelbuch said.
School security personnel responded to the situation initially and police were called, according to Inzelbuch, who said no one was injured. The Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office is reviewing the incident.
Lakewood police did not immediately return a message from New Jersey 101.5 on Tuesday morning.
