Maharashtra on Thursday reported 61,695 fresh coronavirus cases and took the total tally to 36,39,855. On the other hand, 349 people succumbed in the past 24 hours and the death toll reached 59,153. There are 6,20,060 active cases in the state.Meanwhile, with 8,217 new cases in Mumbai reported on Thursday, the total number of cases reached 5,53,159. However, 49 more Mumbaikars lost their life due to the COVID-19 virus.Maharashtra CM Uddhav Thackeray wrote a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi stressing the need for medical oxygen in the state for COVID treatment. With increasing cases of Covid-19 in Kalyan and Dombivli, the twin-city are leading with shortage of beds. Suspected patients coming for covid-19 test are forced to be treated on benches in passage of the hospital.
On Wednesday, patients at Rukmani Bai civic hospital in Kalyan were seen laying on the chair and benches in the passages. The benches meant for relatives to sit were being used for treating patients. The emergency patients were given oxygen and their treatment was on.

KALYAN: Covid vaccination at three private hospitals twin Kalyan-Dombivli has been closed due to shortage of vaccines.
The Kalyan-Dombivli Municipal Corporation (KDMC) officials said the twin-city currently has 22 vaccination centres, out of which 3 centres are closed, while remaining 19 centres have vaccins doses for only next two days.
The three centres which are closed includes AIMS Hospital (Dombivli), Mamta Hospital (Dombivli) and Siddhivinayak Hospital (Kalyan).
Santosh Nimbalkar, health official from KDMC said, We have doses for next two days only . Nimbalkar said, We have demanded state govt for more vaccines on priority basis to run smoothly these centres .

MUMBAI: Maharashtra on Tuesday reported 55,469 fresh coronavirus positive cases, the second highest spike in the last two days, taking the tally of infections to 31,13,354, while 297 deaths pushed the toll to 56,330, the state health department said.
Maharashtra is now left with 4,72,283 active cases.
Mumbai recorded 10,040 new cases and 32 deaths.
At the same time, 34,256 people were discharged on Tuesday, taking the count of the recoveries in the state to 25,83,331, the department said in a release.
