ROANOKE, Va. – Police announced they’ve arrested a 41-year-old Salem man in connection with Thursday night’s deadly crash in Roanoke.
James Brooks is charged with DUI manslaughter after a woman died in a crash at the intersection of Orange Avenue and Gainsboro Road NW.
Police have not yet released any identifying information about the victim.

One woman is dead after two Thursday night crashes on Orange Avenue about a half-mile apart, according to Roanoke Police.
At about 9:30 p.m., police responded to a hit-and-run crash near the area of Orange Avenue and Plantation Road NE, about a block east of Williamson Road.

ROANOKE, Va. – Police are investigating a shooting in northwest Roanoke that sent a man to the hospital on Friday evening.
It happened at about 6:40 p.m. in the 3800 block of Panorama Avenue NW, according to the Roanoke Police Department.
Officers responded to a report of a shooting to find a man with what police said appears to be a “serious” gunshot wound.
Roanoke Fire-EMS took the man to Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital for treatment.
Police have not made any arrests. The investigation is ongoing.

ROANOKE, Va – Thousands of healthcare providers at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital have received the COVID-19 vaccine. But a rise in new cases is causing the hospital to covert more beds for patients and find staff to treat them.
Since getting its first shipment of the COVID-19 vaccine three weeks ago, nearly 6,000 of Carilion’s 13,000 employees have gotten the first dose.
“I’ve been very pleased with our pacing so far,” senior director of pharmacy Chad Alvarez said.
More than 1,500 employees are on track to get their second dose of the Pfizer vaccine this week. So far, staff have seen little to no side effects.
