The Calhoun County Public Health Department will start vaccinating children between the ages of 12 and 15 with the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine at its clinics.

Safety data from an ongoing clinical trial conducted in the United States with 2,260 participants ages 12 through 15 years olds show that the known and potential benefits outweigh the known and potential risks, according to the MDHHS. In the clinical trial, 1,131 adolescent participants received the vaccine and 1,129 received a saline placebo. More than half of the participants were followed for safety for at least two months after the second dose and experienced no significant adverse effects.
