Representative Image GUWAHATI: A group of about 12 farmer activists, who returned from Delhi on Wednesday after the protests, allegedly refused to go through the Covid tests at the airport here. At least two of them have been booked for vandalizing the Covid screening desk at the airport. Police said Dinesh Das of independent peasant-workers’ organization Sangrami Krishak Sramik Sangha (SKSS), and Jayanta Gogoi of the CPI-affiliated Nikhil Bharat Krishak Sabha (NBKS), were arrested. An FIR was lodged against them at the Azara police station for allegedly resorting to vandalism and disrupting government officials on Covid duty at the desk that was jointly manned by officials from the administration and other departments.

Representative image GUWAHATI: BJP on Saturday lambasted Congress for accusing Modi of not talking about the core issues of Assam during his visit to Sivasagar on Saturday. Countering Congress, chief spokesperson of the state BJP Rupam Kumar Goswami said, “Instead of criticising PM Modi, they could have shown their strength by staging protests today. But they have failed to do so. Even, the participation of people in the limited protests organized by a few organisations across the state is also poor. They have missed it.” Talking about the farmers’ condition, Goswami said those protesting at the national capital are not genuine farmers. “They are middlemen. And more importantly, are there farmers only in Punjab and Haryana? Farmers are not protesting anywhere,” he said, claiming that the BJP government under the leadership of PM Modi has taken many initiatives for the welfare of the farmers along with all sections of society.
