Senior BJP leader and Assam cabinet minister Himanta Biswa Sarma alleged that the sole aim of the Opposition parties in Assam, is to usher in Babur s rule in the state.
Sarma made the comments while addressing a public rally in the presence of Union Home Minister Amit Shah in Assam on Sunday. Sarma, who is also the convenor of NDA s regional wing North East Democratic Alliance, also asked the Opposition if Hindus will be able to follow their faith if it forms the next government in the state.

Two recently floated regional outfits Assam Jatiya Parishad (AJP) and Raijor Dal are inching towards a pre-poll alliance in their effort to oust the ruling BJP in the Assembly polls to save the “Assamese society and language”.
Both the parties, formed late last year, have been making overtures to work together to check communal and anti-Assam forces following sustained demands from several quarters for a united regional front to check the ruling BJP coalition.
This was more than evident when AJP’s secretary Chittaranjan Basumatary attended the Raijor Dal’s first convention held in Moran early this month and AJP president Lurinjyoti Gogoi told a public meeting in Nagaon district on Saturday about being open to an alliance with Raijor Dal and other non-communal parties.

Guwahati, Jan 18: Assam s newly floated political party Raijor Dal on Sunday urged another regional outfit Asom Jatiyo Parishad (AJP) to take forward discussions on forming a pre-poll alliance.
Elections to the 126-member Assam assembly are due in March-April.
Working presidents of the outfit, helmed by jailed RTI activist Akhil Gogoi, wrote a letter to AJP chief Lurinjyoti Gogoi, requesting him to decide on a date to hold discussions on forming the alliance. The alliance must be given priority as the prevailing situation and anti-people policies of the BJP demands it, the letter read.
